CQS042823: Introduction to 'At Least as Wide as' Paper Piecing - Apr 28, 2023 09:00 am
You will learn to create your choice of the Hummer Buffet or Floral Bouquet 22" x 22" wall quilts using Johnnie's somewhat unique way to paper piece. Johnnie never liked cutting block pieces from paper or plastic templates, not with scissors or a rotary cutter or ruler. She devised an alternative way to do paper piecing that has benefits over traditional piecing, including: less hand stress, better for arthritic fingers
-increased accuracy
-less concern about straight of grain and bias
-more relaxed sewing and more fun.
Johnnie calls it strip paper piecing or 'at least as wide as' piecing. In this class, you will learn her favorite stuff:
-how to 'analyze' a pattern, determine fabric strip width and use the correct sewing sequence
-how and why to follow the sewing sequence on paper pieced component
-the best thread weight and stitch length
-stay stitch at the beginning and end of sewing line
-starch and iron fabric (prewash your choice)
-cut only enough strips for your sewing session
-easy way to 'set' the block and remove the paper
-assemble the components.
