Let's Start at the Beginning...

Workshop #2 –The Log Cabin Block

In this Log Cabin Workshop, you will learn how light and dark fabrics work together to create the traditional Log Cabin Block. Then you will have your choice of arranging four of these blocks into a table topper or you can arrange nine blocks to make a baby quilt or wall hanging.  Each finished block measures nine inches.


Before Class (if you are comfortable with the rotary cutter, cut the following but if you are not, you can wait until the class for assistance) Cut one, 2 ½” wide strip across the width of fabric from each dark and each light fabric.


Supply List: 

Fabric- In the sample, there is three or four different prints of light and dark fabrics used.

You can use one print of each dark and light fabric for the whole piece if you wish.

For the nine block construction- A total of one yard light fabrics and one yard of dark fabrics. For the four-block construction ½ yd of each.  For center squares and border ½ yd. of fabric

Rotary Cutter, Cutting Mat

Quilter’s Ruler (size 24”X 6 ½” suggested)

Straight pins for piecing

Neutral color 100% cotton thread for piecing

90/14 Quilting needle for your sewing machine

¼” seam foot for your sewing machine recommended

Sewing machine in good working order and its manual (Don't forget your foot pedal and power cord.)

She specializes in applique and classes with the beginner in mind. She enjoys working with original designs and variations in traditional patterns. An educator at heart, Carol passes on her expertise of quilting techniques while encouraging students? creativity. Carol has had her work juried into national and international shows. Most recently, in August 2020, she won the Best Hand Workmanship Award in the Wall Quilt Competition at Mancuso?s Virtual #1 Quilt Competition during the Online Quilt Festival.
