Workshop #3 – Ohio Star Block

The objective of this workshop is to learn to piece the Ohio Star block.  You will gain confidence in constructing half square triangles as you construct the Star.   This is a finished 12” block.  The block will make an awesome 16” pillow. How you can make multiple size blocks and how to include this block in other projects will be discussed during the workshop.
             

Before Class, cut the following:

The star block is made out of 100% cotton fabric fat quarters:

One light color fabric for the background – cut a 4 ½ " strip across the fat quarter

One medium light, one medium, and one dark fabric for the star itself--cut a 5 ¾ " strip from each. 

So, when you arrive in class you will have one strip cut that is 4 ½” wide and 3 strips cut from the star fabrics that are 5 ¾ " wide.

Supply List:

Quilter’s ruler and, if you have one, a 4 ½” square ruler

Neutral color thread for piecing

Rotary cutter and mat

Scissors

Pins for piecing

¼” seam Piecing Foot if you have one

Sewing machine in good working order and its Manual (Don't forget your power cord and foot pedal.)
